Congregations' Measurable,
"Caring for All Creation" Commitments

In 2004, several congregations participated in Earth Ministry's "Caring for All Creation: On the Road, At the Table, In the Home" program.  Below, you'll find results from a few of the congregations that reported back to us after their "Drive-Less Sunday" and "Food & Faith Sunday" events.  Congratulations to all who participated!

On the Road

  • University Baptist Church (Seattle, WA) celebrated "Drive-Less Sunday" on May 30, 2004.  Here are their measurable results:
» 31 people participated (45% carpooled, 19% walked, 13% took the bus, 10% rode bikes)
» These people reduced their normal "total miles driven" to church by 84.5 miles.
» They prevented the production of over 84 lbs. of CO2.
» If they chose to "drive less" very Sunday for a year, they would prevent the emission of over 4,000 lbs. of CO2.

  • Woodland Park Presbyterian Church (Seattle, WA) celebrated "Car-Free Sunday" on August, 29, 2004.  Here are their results:
    » 8 people participated
» These 8 people reduced their normal "total miles driven" to church by 43 miles.
» They prevented the production of over 43 lbs. of CO2.
» If they chose to go "car free" very Sunday for a year, they would prevent the emission of over 2,000 lbs. of CO2.

At the Table

  • Snoqualmie United Methodist Church (Snoqualmie, WA) Celebrated "Food & Faith Sunday" on November 21, 2004.  Here are their results:

» 9 people pledged to eat one less "conventional" meat item each week.
» 9 people pledged to make at least 10% of their weekly food purchases organic/pesticide-free.
