The Interfaith Creation Festival
May 31 to June 3, 2007

The Interfaith Creation Festival brought Jews, Muslims, and Christians together in worship and song, in praise and study, on behalf of our common and endangered Earth. It was a remarkable event, almost three years in the planning, in which the teachings of the “people of the Book” were shared in a vibrant and respectful way with each other. The major speakers were Imams, Rabbis, a bishop, and several scholars who talked about how each faith must take responsibility for loving and caring for the earth instead of fighting against the other.

The event was a wonderful success, many of us were deeply touched, and the community that came together reached across many divides to share our faith values and our great hopes for a future of peace and satiety. Each faith leader expressed the need to take action on environmental stewardship as the greatest moral challenge of our time; and many of those present have planned to connect more deeply and to take action together on behalf of our threatened climate.  In particular, Bishop Charleston of Cambridge announced the Genesis Covenant which people of faith will make together on behalf of God’s creations. Read Bishop Charleston's sermon here.

A heart felt thanks to all who came and reached out across the surface differences that separate us, to those who led worship and taught classes, and especially to those who worked so hard to create and organize such a life-changing event.

As ongoing connections and follow up emerge from the Interfaith Creation Festival, Earth Ministry will report it on this page.
