This is a brief list of some of creation-honoring songs and hymns that you may find in several denominational hymnals – especially those listed as “Traditional Songs/Hymns.”  You will find many of the “Contemporary Songs/Hymns” in Gather Comprehensive cited at the end of this list.  The songs/hymns are listed by either title or first line.  In parenthesis, after each title, you’ll find, where available: (1) composers and/or arrangers, and (2) tune titles in italics.

·        Gather Comprehensive (hymnal), GIA Publications.  This hymnal has a section devoted to “creation.”

·        A Hymn Festival About the Earth, by David Schelat and Elaine Reisner, in The Hymn, Vol. 42, no. 1, pp. 29-31.  A complete service based on prayers, hymns, and meditations taken from a wide variety of cultures.

·        Open the Door: Songs for Liturgy and Liberation and Walk Across the Water: Songs for Living Faith, by Ray Makeever, published by Open Door Press; contact: Ray Makeever, P.O. Box 3005, Dubuque, IA 52004

·        Songs for Young Children, by Mary Lu Walker, published by Paulist Press, Paramus, NJ.  This songbook contains several songs that celebrate God’s world.  Order through your local bookstore.

·        Walk Lightly on the Earth: Apprenticing a Conscience for North America, by John Pitney, available through Alternatives for Simple Living.  Lively creation-care songs for children and adults, performed by Pitney – a United Methodist minister.
